NSW STATE OF ORIGIN 1997 NRL RETRO JERSEY
The 1997 series was NSW's fifth win in six years, a sustained run of dominance that has been underappreciated by the modern fan.
The 1997 series was also one of the most unusual in Origin history. The Super League war meant household names like Laurie Daley, Ricky Stuart, Bradley Clyde and Gorden Tallis were all absent, ineligible due to their Super League contracts. In their place, a younger generation, inclduing Andrew Johns, Trent Barrett and Steve Menzies, stepped up and delivered the series under the colourful Tommy Raudonikis, who guided the Blues to victory in the first two games. It was the series that truly announced Johns to the Origin stage.
And then there's the jersey itself. This isn't the traditional plain sky blue - it's a light blue and navy with distinctive vertical centre stripes, one of the most unique and visually striking designs NSW have ever worn in Origin. Instantly recognisable, and a real talking point for any retro jersey collector.
